Nail Tech Program Overview

If you’re looking for a stepping-stone into the beauty industry, our nail tech (manicuring) program is a great way to get in. Over the course of our 400-hour curriculum — which can be completed in as little as 13 weeks — you’ll learn many skills and services, including:

  • Manicuring
  • Pedicuring
  • Acrylic nails
  • Gel nails
  • Nail forms
  • Nail art
  • Nail design
  • Sanitation
  • Safety and hygiene practices

Once you have learned the basic theory topics, our nail tech students begin hands-on practice. After learning and practicing the basics, you’ll move quickly into a professional setting: the Nathan Layne Institute spa and salon, where you can fine-tune your technical skills while learning how to develop rapport with clients.

Through this learning, you’ll have the support of our knowledgeable, licensed instructors. As a student, you will have full access to salon-quality brands in our classrooms, such as Morgan Taylor and Gelish.

Personal Branding as a Nail Tech

Manicure

Along with the technical side of nail care, our nail tech students also learn how to navigate the branding and business end of beauty with instruction designed by owner Nate Shaw, a veteran of the salon business and product retailing. Under his guidance, you’ll learn valuable skills you can take with you beyond the salon floor, such as:

  • Business strategy

  • Networking

  • Client relationship building

The spa and salon floor is more than just a place where you’ll practice — it also serves as a launching point for your personal brand. When you study at Nathan Layne Institute, you are encouraged to develop relationships with your clients in the student salon so that you begin to build your book of business. We encourage you to develop a clientele that will follow you to your first job as a nail tech, because your success is most important to us.

Our professional learning spaces are also where you’ll start organizing and growing your portfolio of nail artwork in preparation for that first job interview with a prospective employer. We’ll show you how and give you ample opportunity to showcase different skills for that portfolio.
